TOPIC: Children with disability

Hi ..
I would like to know if there are anybindian parents with children with disability .I'm new to this area and would like to know as to how it works here.any info will be very much appreciated

Hi Sangeetha, Welcome to Cary.

Wake county gives good support to kids with disability. I know few years back two families moved here for their kids from another state. You check this link and make phone calls to know more. Kids can be enrolled to full day program in public schools once they turn 3 and meet the requirements.

Depending on the nature of the disability, you would want to consider networking outside your ethnic group. City-Data has good forums for this area. Contacting Wake county may also be helpful: www.wakegov.com/humanservices/Pages/default.aspx

Well thank u so much for the site... I have already enrolled her in the wake county school.I just wanted to know if I could talk to some Indian parents who have children enrolled there to know how it works.the site dies not have any parents numbers though.If u know somebody or ure friends I would really appreciate if u can put me through them.I'm jus a little worried for my daughter coz the entire set up us so new to her ..a total change from wat it is in India.

Go to the temple and chat up parents who have kids of the same age. That should give you a good feel for a typical elementary school. You may even get lucky and run into someone going to the same school though you are more likely to run into someone from the same school by chatting up people around your place of residence.
