I am compiling a list of places to visit in and around triangle. My parents are here and I have visited few places and will be visiting few more. Please suggest the interesting places that is worth spending couple of hours.

Here is some that I think of -

1. Museum of Natural Sciences at Raleigh. Great place for kids and to know more about North Carolina. Entrance is free. There are 4 floors of exhibits - naturalsciences.org/

2. North Carolina Museum of Art at Raleigh. Good place for art buffs and adults. Paintings and artifacts from all over the world. Some of the paintings from 14 century thru 19thru century are very good. Children may not like it. I took my 7 year old son and he did not like it. Entrance is free. www.ncartmuseum.org/

3. Observation deck at airport - I love this place. It is about 5 minutes drive from HSNC and very relaxing place. A small play ground for kids and you can watch flights take off and land every few minutes. Its usually windy out there and dress warmer than usual. We buy break fast from one of the fast food restaurants and spend an hour out there.

I plan to visit few more new places in few week ends. Please let me know anything that you had good experience with.

Thanks
Satish

5. Shopping at South Point Mall
6. Biltmore Estate (not so close but can do it over a weekend)
6. Duke university
6. Chapel Hill area
7. Duke Garden

Once you are done with these places, let me know...I will tell you more

Marbles Museum in downtown Raleigh was real fun for the kids. Also the Hunted Maze in morris ville was great.

repeated use of 6 shows your obsession with sex (oops!)

other than 1 and 7, they do not belong in this list

A and Siva,

Thanks for recommendations.

A, I am planing to visit Duke Garden today. What other things are there in Duke University?

Siva, did you visit the corn maze during the week day or week end?

Took them to South Point Mall for shopping on Saturday. They liked it better than the smithfield outlet mall.

Satish,

Take them to Duke University. I took my Mother in law there and she really liked it.

Park your car somewhere and walk around in the university area. The building are beautiful. Weather is perfect for outdoor today.

You cannot compare Southpoint with Smithfield...Southpoint is too good..specially open part. If your parents liked Southpoint, they will love Glenwood Avenue ...inside the beltline. Will write more later tonight. Have to go right now.

Manoj,

Tourist spots are personal choice.

A,
Agree. But, how does Chappel Hill area and eating at a restaurant count as places of interest, unless you list a specific place in Chappel Hill or a spcific restaurant on Glenwood.

and I know that you love this city, but Glenwood is no Broadway or South Beach.

Manoj,

Let us leave it to Satish to decide if the information was useful or not. Personal taste and eating restrictions (vegetarian or non vegetarian) come into play to decide a restaurant. In fact, a family of four may have four strong opinion when it comes to choosing it.

About 'Broadway', there are three ways to view it:

1. There is no Broadway in Raleigh and let us sulk at home.
2. There is no Broadway in Raleigh, let us wait for City to build one and then we will go.
3. Let us make the best use of what we have.

Again I will leave it the person visiting to decide.

Satish,

So was the information useful? I know your 'diplomatic' answer but I will ask anyway.

Manoj,

So you don't like this city. If so, why ?

A,

The information is very useful. We had good time at Sarah P Duke Garden. I plan to go back in spring. Thanks for suggestion.

We will skip outerbanks, but we are planing to visit Mountains. Trying to time it so that we can enjoy fall colors.

I will keep you updated on places we visit and their feedback.

Thanks
Satish

A,
There is your answer. You listed some 10 things and he picked Duke Gardens, not a restaurant on Glenwood. LOL

I think Glenwood is just an ordinary place, so are shopping malls, not really an attraction. Duke Gardens is definitely a place to visit.

Raleigh Lover,
I do like the city, but one has to be objective, and not list all the twenty things that one has been to, as local attractions. B)

Manoj,

Give it few days or weeks. You cannot go to 'attractions' every day. Most people start with Duke Gardens but think about once they are done with these attractions.

To experience a place, one has to go to local places.

Wait and see :)

Thanks for the inforamtion on this and is certainly welcoming for people like me who are first timers here (NC) and are also interested in reading the reviews of others to get some idea about the place(s) which I don't know at all. Havings said that, here are my 2 cents:

Thanks once again for a great platform.

Question and Answer,

Repetition of attempted humor for entertainment becomes annoying.

Manoj,

On these kind of forums (and in real life too), people can only provide suggestions. Accepting or rejecting a suggestion is up to the person asking for suggestion. Satish has been living in this area for a long time and my assumption is he is aware of all common spots and websites for that provides this kind of information. He is looking for something beyond that.

Also criticizing and fault finding is easy. If people finding fault can provide some alternatives not already known, then may be we will all benefit from that.
