Boogie Woogie NC 2009 Competition  E-mail

The 2010 North Carolina Boogie Woogie Dance Competition was a gala event of artists from the entire state.  Held at the Seby Jones Auditorium of St. Augustine’s College, the competition exhibited the dance achievements of more than 20 performers across a broad age range and dance styles.  The Boogie Woogie competition strives to promote Indian culture abroad by recognizing the excellence in dance for the Indians in America. The passion and dedication inherent in each of the competitors clearly showed as they provided the city of Raleigh a small taste of the rich variety of disciplines present in Indian classical dance. A select group of classical dancers demonstrated that their talent was in no way lesser than their counterparts in India.

 
Gandhi Statue Project in Triangle  E-mail

Dr. Arvind Shah initiated the Project in the summer of 2005.  Under his leadership Indian American Community and its leaders,  Indian American Cultural  and Business  Organizations in RTP and its Vicinity,  BAPS volunteers,  Entrepreneurs from Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc., and  EXPLORIS Museum(Also called Kids Marble Museum) – IAFPE, NC Chapter facilitated the Gandhi Project.  Dr.  Shah   wanted it to be a community project and sought involvement beyond the membership of IAFPE.   He was awared as Community Ambassador in 2007 by Heritage India Association.

 
ApnaTriangle Interview with Yash Garg, an educator and community consultant by Kubi  E-mail

Yash GargMrs. Yash Garg is the founder of Heritage India Association of North Carolina.  She has served on the Board of Directors of Hindu Society and Hindi Vikas Mandal, N.C. for a number of years.   She promotes Indian culture at large community events like the International Festival of the City of Raleigh, Heritage India Festival, Children’s Day and Gandhi Jayanti celebration.   She was instrumental in starting Hindi classes at NC State University  and  taught two courses in  Hindi at NC State for a number of years.

Nagi ReddyMr. Reddy had received PhD in Bio-chemistry from Madras University and came to US in 1987 for his post-doctoral study. He came to Raleigh in 1993 to work as scientist for National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. In 1995, he opened Triangle Indian Market in Cary's Chatham Square to help people of Indian heritage find ethnic products and as a means to meet other Indian people in the area. The Chatham square later attracted many Indian businesses and is now known as "Little India". He continued to work as scientist and managed the store. Besides the Triangle Indian market he is part-owner of Udupi cafe a sumptuous vegetarian restaurant and is a partner in Galaxy Cinema at Cary Towne Boulevard. He also investor of SRR real estate group in Bangalore, India.
